Real-time remote sensing in aquatic environments allows researchers to monitor environmental events and physical metrics from the comfort of a home or laboratory. This particular device was developed to monitor the valve gape of giant clams in shallow water, along with ambient light levels and surge currents. The system consists of a submerged sensor hub that collects and parses environmental data. This data is transmitted to a surface buoy, which relays it in real time to a cloud server via a cellular TCP/IP link. The buoy is equipped with a solar charging system to maintain battery power during extended deployments.
